About the company
Verisign, Inc. is an American internet infrastructure company founded in 1995, headquartered in Reston, Virginia. The company operates as the authoritative registry for several top-level domains including .com, .net, .web, .name, and the .cc country-code domain. Verisign manages two of the internet’s thirteen root nameservers and serves as the DNS Root Zone Maintainer under an agreement with ICANN. The company provides backend systems for .jobs and .edu sponsored top-level domains. Verisign sold its authentication business unit, including SSL certificate and PKI services, to Symantec in 2010 for $1.28 billion, subsequently narrowing its focus to core infrastructure operations.
