Dhaka — On July 19, the Commerce Ministry issued a show-cause notice asking why no legal action should be taken against Evaly. The government has taken a stand against the activities of e-commerce firm after allegations surfaced that it did not deliver the goods on time even with advance payment from the customer and did not pay for the goods from the merchant.
The Ministry of Commerce issued a show-cause notice to the company, fearing that a large number of buyers and sellers could be financially harmed by Evaly’s activities.
The much-discussed organization has asked the Commerce Ministry for six months to explain the notice. In response to the ministry’s show-cause notice, Evaly said,
“During this period, Evaly will make every effort to gradually complete the delivery of the previously promised product and will send a progress report to the Ministry every 15 days.”
Evaly also informed the ministry about an investment deal of Tk 1,000 crore. From which initially this e-commerce platform will get Tk200 crore.
However, they did not mention the name of the investing company in the letter submitted on the afternoon of August 1.
Earlier on July 19, the Commerce Ministry had issued a show-cause notice to the company asking why no legal action would be taken against Evaly.
The ministry also wanted to know the company’s business practices. The ministry had given a deadline of August 1 to inform about this.
On July 4, the Commerce Ministry sent a letter to the Home Ministry to file a case against Evaly for embezzling or illegally removing Tk338 crore taken in advance from customers and merchants.
Besides, the ministry sent a separate letter to the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) to take legal action after investigating the financial irregularities found by Bangladesh Bank against Evaly.
