Brihaspathi Technologies Limited said it has won a ₹106 crore contract from the Maharashtra State Road Transport Corporation to install surveillance cameras across bus stops and stations in the state.
The Hyderabad based firm said the project covers the installation of about 6,300 cameras across 658 MSRTC bus stands and stations, with video feeds routed to a central integrated command and control centre for round the clock monitoring.
MSRTC is one of India‘s largest state-run bus operators, with a fleet size of about 15,000 buses, and the surveillance rollout is intended to improve oversight of passenger areas, depots, workshops and other facilities, the company said.
Brihaspathi said the system will use high-definition IP cameras, edge devices and analytics-enabled servers. The data will be managed through an enterprise video management system and displayed on a video wall at the command centre, with operator consoles supporting monitoring and incident response.
The company said the contract includes five years of warranty and maintenance support, with predictive and preventive servicing aimed at reducing downtime.
Public transport agencies in several states have been adding CCTV and command centres as part of broader safety and operations upgrades, particularly in high-footfall areas.
Such systems can help detect incidents, deter vandalism and improve response times, though they also raise questions around data governance, retention practices and safeguards against misuse.
Rajasekhar Papolu, managing director, Brihaspathi Technologies, said the company’s selection “reinforces our team’s ability to meet large-scale security needs”, adding that it would contribute to “safer public spaces and transport systems in Maharashtra”.
