MWC Barcelona—In a move to streamline the eSIM activation process on Android devices, Thales, in partnership with Google, has introduced the eSIM Discovery solution. This development is aimed at facilitating a smoother and more efficient activation process for users, enabling them to access cellular connectivity with minimal effort, said a statement.
According to a GSMA Intelligence report, there will be over 3.4 billion eSIM-enabled devices, including tablets, laptops, and smartwatches, by 2025. Also, 98% of mobile network operators are expected to offer eSIM services by the same year, highlighting the growing interest and demand for eSIM technology.
Thales said that its eSIM Discovery service is designed to simplify the initial setup process for eSIM devices. Upon turning on an eSIM device for the first time, users are required to locate and download the subscription of their chosen operator to activate cellular access. Thales’ solution streamlines this procedure, allowing for a near-instantaneous activation with just one click.

She further explained that the eSIM Discovery service is designed to assist in the widespread adoption of eSIM technology across various devices and connectivity providers, offering a seamless activation experience for all users with an Android device.
The company claimed that the cloud-based nature of solution ensures its global availability and scalability, catering to all Android devices and carriers worldwide. This means that eSIM profile activations can be efficiently handled wherever and whenever a device is powered on, significantly enhancing the user experience for individuals transitioning to eSIM technology.
