Dhaka — Bangladesh has improved the International Cyber Security Index of the International Telecommunication Union (ITU) by 25 steps. The Global Cyber Security Index-2020 was released on Tuesday, taking into account the legal system, technological expertise, organizational capacity, capacity building, and mutual cooperation situation in the cyber security of 194 countries around the world.
Bangladesh came up in 53rd place with a score of 81.27. Last year, Bangladesh was ranked 78th in the index. “Several countries, such as Bangladesh, Benin, Rwanda and Tanzania, have come forward to demonstrate a strong cybersecurity commitment,” the report said.
ITU says these countries have developed a cybersecurity industry at the national level, which is an important capacity building initiative.
The United States is in the best position with a score of 100 in the latest index published on the ITU website. The United Kingdom and Saudi Arabia is in second place with a score of 99.54. Estonia is in third place with 99.48 marks.
Bangladesh ranks 11th in the Asia Pacific region. South Korea ranks first in the region with a score of 98.52. India is in the 4th position. China ranks 8th and Pakistan ranks 14th.
