Sophos ropes in McAfee veteran Gavin Struthers to head APJ

Cybersecurity firm Sophos has appointed McAfee veteran Gavin Struthers as its regional for Asia Pacific and Japan. Based out of officer, Struthers will be responsible for driving strategic business growth plans and excellence in channel operations, said company in a statement.

The announcement comes days after Sophos’ general manager for Australia and New Zealand Ashley Wearne revealed his departure from the vendor after seven years.

Prior to Sophos, Struthers spent 16 years at McAfee where he held several senior leadership positions in the US and within the Asia-Pacific region, most recently serving as senior vice president and president, APAC at McAfee. During his time at McAfee, Struthers collaborated with partners, distributors, and managed service providers to deliver sales strategies and growth across the region.

Recently, Sophos has announced the acquisition of Avid Secure, a small startup dedicated to cloud security. In past it has acquired a range of cybersecurity, AI, and machine-learning based companies in the past, including Invincea, Utimaco, and Barricade.
