Nokia showcased its Network Exposure Function (NEF) for Core at Nokia’s Research and Development center in Bengaluru on the center’s Innovation Day. NEF will allow service providers to deliver an improved quality of experience for internet application and device provisioning, enabling a number of 5G use cases including Massive IoT, Ultra Reliable Low Latency Communication and Enhanced Mobile Broadband. Nokia NEF will be commercially available in the third quarter of 2019.

Nokia NEF is based on the 5G specifications released by the 3GPP standardization body. It is a part of the 5G Core network function and securely exposes operators’ assets to application developers in the enterprise and Over-The-Top () domain. Enabling new services and business models, it also allows service providers to boost revenues. At the same time, subscribers are also able to enjoy best-in-class applications.

Rupa Santosh, head of the Bangalore R&D Center at Nokia, said: “It is a proud moment for us, as NEF has been conceptualized at Nokia’s Bengaluru R&D center and developed jointly with the Budapest R&D center. Our center is actively involved in the development of new technology approaches for state-of-the-art quality products, for which Nokia is known across the globe, and Nokia NEF is just one example of this work. We are committed to continue developing new and innovative products to help service providers meet various market challenges and maximize their investments.”
