After the Tata group board ratified the reappointment of as chairman of for a second five-year term industry veteran, Chandrasekaran will begin his second tenure from February 20.

The Tata board on Friday ratified N Chandrasekaran's reappointment after getting the due consent from the latter who is also the first non-family professional executive to helm Tata Sons. Chandrasekaran's current tenure as the chairman of the company expires on February 20.

The Board of Tata Sons reviewed the last five years' performance of the group and considered the reappointment of Chandrasekaran. The decision was made at a board meeting on Friday. In a statement, Tata Sons said that Ratan N Tata, who was a special invitee to this meeting, expressed his satisfaction with the progress and performance of the Tata Group under the leadership of Chandrasekaran.

“The Board members commended the performance of the Executive Chairman and unanimously approved the reappointment of Mr. N Chandrasekaran as the Executive Chairman for the next five years,” the statement said.

Chandrasekaran chairs the Boards of group operating companies including Tata Steel, Tata Motors, Tata Power, and Tata Consultancy Services. Tata Sons is the principal investment holding company and promoter of Tata companies. In 2020-21, the revenue of Tata companies was $103 billion. The companies employ over 8,00,000 people.
