US Prez Biden partners Britain, Australia on tech, cyber, defence to check Chinese influence

The working group, known as AUUKUS, will enable the three countries to share information in AI, cyber, underwater systems, and long-range strike capabilities

In a move to check the growing Chinese influence in major technology sectors including cyber security and defence technology, US President Joe Biden on Wednesday announced a comprehensive partnership with Britain and Australia under which the three countries will share advanced technologies.

Biden is also likely to announce some further US government plans in this regard soon. As per top government sources, the working group, to be known as AUUKUS, will enable the three countries to share information in areas including artificial intelligence, cyber, underwater systems and long-range strike capabilities, Politico reported, citing a White House official and a congressional staffer.

As part of the pact, the US and UK will share their knowledge of how to maintain nuclear defence infrastructure. The move is seen as a long term strategy by the Western allies to counter China’s rise in the military and technology sectors.
