French technology services and consulting company Capgemini has announced to strengthen its collaboration with telecommunications major Ericsson to accelerate the deployment of its 5G solutions. With the Union government already giving a nod for 5G trials in India, Capgemini has deployed an industry solution from Ericsson to cater to the Indian market.
So far Capgemini has deployed Ericsson’s ‘5G (standalone) Industry Connect’ solution at its 5G Lab in Mumbai that will assist in bringing 5G and edge technologies to its clients across industries. According to the company, a multidisciplinary team at the 5G Lab will support organizations in their varied use cases and help in building, monetizing, and strategizing around what 5G can offer to their businesses.
Ericsson’s ‘5G Industry Connect’ is a network product that can be used by companies that require a fully private (on-premise) deployment for limited coverage areas, such as manufacturing or warehousing among other use cases. In the 5G Lab, the solution will enable enterprises across different industry verticals like health, safety, manufacturing to test out 5G use cases that can be applied by the industry.
Capgemini’s Lab plans to support its global clients through three main offerings. The first is the 5G & Edge ideation catalyst program intended towards 5G immersion and opportunity framing. Second is the 5G & Edge use case acceleration platform that is geared towards implementing business use cases on a pre-packaged platform, followed by the 5G & Edge Fab Lab to set up capabilities to operate a client-exclusive 5G Lab.
According to Ashwin Yardi, Chief Executive Officer – India, at Capgemini and member of the Group Executive Committee “The Capgemini 5G Lab offers a ‘ready to use platform for our customers to ideate, innovate and deploy use cases as they adopt new technologies which will enable them to accelerate their digital transformation journey towards Intelligent Industry.”
Yardi claimed that the lab will cater to four main industry categories namely Smart Factory, Smart Utilities, Smart City, and Smart Retail. Nadine Allen, Head of Enterprise Business, Ericsson South East Asia, Oceania, and India, meanwhile, said that ‘Industry Connect’ is a secure, easy to install, easy to manage turnkey Industry 4.0 solution providing 4G LTE as well as the latest 5G standalone cellular technology.
