As India accelerates its digital governance journey through flagship platforms like DigiLocker, eHospital, and eDistrict—under the larger Digital India initiative—the resilience, security, and scalability of this digital infrastructure are becoming central to national interest. The National Informatics Centre (NIC), as the technological backbone of many of these initiatives, plays a crucial role in ensuring uninterrupted, secure, and citizen-trusted digital services.

As these platforms expand in reach and complexity, so too does the threat landscape they must operate within. Cyberattacks are no longer limited to basic intrusions—they now span coordinated API abuse, credential compromise, data theft, and advanced denial-of-service attacks. Protecting public digital infrastructure today means addressing multiple layers: application integrity, data protection, trusted identity, and the security of software systems that enable public service delivery at scale.

To focus on these, Thales with Tech Observer Magazine is organising a high-trust, closed-door curated knowledge session bringing together senior officials from NIC, MeitY, and select domain experts to reflect on India’s evolving cybersecurity needs and the architectures required to protect and scale national digital infrastructure.

Key Discussion Themes

  • Securing Public-Facing Applications & APIs: As government services become increasingly application-driven and API-enabled, the discussion will focus on strategies to detect and mitigate application-level vulnerabilities, including protection against automated abuse, injection attacks, and runtime threats in dynamic environments.
  • Safeguarding Sensitive Data Across the Lifecycle: With the growing emphasis on data governance and frameworks like the DPDP Act, participants will explore encryption strategies, access controls, and policy enforcement mechanisms to protect citizen data—whether at rest, in transit, or in use—across hybrid cloud environments.
  • Strengthening Identity and Access Controls for Government Systems: As identity becomes the gateway to services, ensuring secure and seamless access—especially in multi-cloud and federated environments—is essential. The session will delve into identity assurance models, Zero Trust principles, and ways to prevent credential-based attacks on critical systems.
  • Ensuring Trust, Continuity & Monetization in Software-Driven Government Services: As many public platforms evolve from static portals to dynamic, service-oriented software systems, discussions will include how to ensure uptime, maintain public trust in digital services, and build more robust software governance—potentially opening avenues for efficiency, analytics, and monetization in citizen services.
