VMware gets CloudCoreo leg up in its hybrid cloud strategy

has acquired , a Seattle-based configuration-management startup for an undisclosed amount. This acquisition will help VMware customers get a better understanding of their risks in the cloud. “Today, I'm thrilled to announce our acquisition of CloudCoreo continuing on our commitment to secure and manage applications in a multi-cloud world. I want to officially welcome the CloudCoreo team to VMware,” said Milin Desai, General Manager, Cloud Services, VMware.

CloudCoreo offers solution that proactively identifying public cloud risks at the time of deployment to prevent breaches of compliance violations before they occur. The solution also continuously scans and monitors cloud infrastructure to keep applications and data safe. CloudCoreo will help VMware customers running strategies better understand how their applications and data are potentially vulnerable across multiple cloud environments.

CloudCoreo has a small team of less than ten employee. They all will join VMware's Cloud Services unit and CloudCoreo's flagship configuration-management product will get folded into that group.

“As a part of VMware, CloudCoreo will enable us to extend our model of supporting consistent operations across any cloud. We will help customers to access the best cloud for the needs of each individual application, while optimizing security and compliance. And we will give customers the ultimate choice to develop any type of application their business needs and deploy to any cloud, without increasing complexity or risk to the business,” said Desaid.

CloudCoreo was founded almost two years ago, it raised a $2.9 million seed fund led by Madrona Venture Group in October 2016.

“We are happy to announce the CloudCoreo team and solution are now a part of VMware. It was just 20 months ago (July 2016) that we began our journey to build a next-generation cloud security service designed to find and fix misconfigurations and vulnerabilities across public cloud providers,” said CloudCoreo.

“Under VMware, our existing customers will receive uninterrupted service as we continue to deliver our vision for a proactive and real-time security offering. As a part of VMware, we are excited to drive even more innovation and value for our customers,” added CloudCoreo.
