Rackspace acquires Datapipe: A big push to hybrid cloud service strategy

Giving big push to multi-cloud service strategy, US-based managed cloud company Rackspace is acquiring Datapipe, a technology firm that specializes in managing services across public and private clouds, managed hosting and colocation.

Giving big push to multi-cloud service strategy, US-based managed cloud company is acquiring , a technology firm that specializes in managing services across public and private clouds, managed hosting and colocation. Company did not disclose the financial of the transactions. This acquisition, the largest in Rackspace history will make the American firm a leading provider of multi-cloud managed services across all the hyper-scale infrastructure providers – the Alibaba Cloud, Amazon Web Services, Google Cloud Platform, and Microsoft Azure.

Based in Jersey City, Datapipe has 825 employees who work at 11 offices in the US., UK., and Asia. It has 29 data centers in nine countries across the US., UK., continental Europe, Asia, the Pacific and Latin America. Company said that it expect to obtain financing and regulatory approvals for this transaction by the fourth quarter of 2017.

“It will have a big impact on our ability to deliver the multi-cloud services that today's customers are demanding,” said aid Joe Eazor, CEO of Rackspace, adding that “customers want us to give them expert, unbiased advice, and manage their applications on whichever clouds will best meet their unique needs. They want us to serve them at scale, from data centers and offices across the globe. And they want the world's best customer experience, across digital tools and results-obsessed customer service. Our mission is to meet those needs — today and as they evolve.”

According to industry surveys, the vast majority of companies operate across three or more clouds today, and will do so for years to come. With this acquisition of Datapipe, Rackspace will aggressively push itself as a leading firm to provide or multi-could management firm.

“Customers need guidance using public cloud infrastructure from Alibaba Cloud, Amazon Web Services, Google Cloud Platform, and Microsoft Azure. They also need help navigating the use of private clouds, managed hosting and colocation solutions, often in combination, as they move critical applications out of their corporate data centers. The combination of complementary capabilities and resources from both of our companies will create the world's leading provider of multi-cloud managed services,” stated Robb Allen, founder and CEO of Datapipe.

Pending regulatory approvals, Rackspace's acquisition of Datapipe is expected to close in Q4 2017. Rackspace will develop a comprehensive integration plan and company said it will take great care to maintain and enhance the exceptional customer outcomes that both companies are known for. All the employee of Datapipe will join Rackspace, said company.
