, a firm specialising in enterprise data protection, announced the of veteran security leader Alex Janas as its Field Chief Technology Officer.

In this role, Janas will oversee security initiatives, leveraging his extensive background to foster an ‘offensive security posture' to better equip customers against persistent autonomous threats, said a senior executive from Commvault.

“Alex's experience going head-to-head with the toughest cyber threats out there gives us the invaluable insight to develop an offensive security posture and help keep our customers safe from these ongoing, pervasive autonomous threats,” said Rahul Pawar, CTO, Global Services and Solutions, Commvault.

With nearly two decades of cybersecurity expertise in the private sector, besides the offensive security acumen honed at the National Security Agency (NSA), a crucial United States government agency focused on global monitoring, collection, and processing of information for foreign and domestic intelligence and counterintelligence, Janas is well-poised to navigate the complex security landscape.

His tenure at the NSA saw him performing roles of Analyst, Operator, and Technical Director, earning him the Master Operator designation, an esteemed recognition granted to a select group of Computer Network Operations personnel, said the company.

“The rapidly evolving threat landscape forces defenders to react and respond to their adversaries' timetable and magnitude. To effectively challenge this asymmetry, we need to create strategies that increase the operational risks and costs for attackers and minimise the fallout for victims, while also scaling and keeping pace with an attacker's adaptations,” Janas said.

“Being a part of Commvault allows me to apply my offensive cybersecurity experience to enhance a product that is a pivotal layer in a company's overarching cybersecurity strategy,” he added.

The onboarding of Janas is part of a series of strategic appointments aimed at bolstering the company's security posture and operational efficiency.

Notably, in a similar move, Commvault appointed industry veteran Richard Gadd as Senior Vice President of EMEA (Europe, Middle East, and Africa) and India.

Also, earlier this year, John Tavares stepped into the role of Vice President, Global Channel and Alliances at Commvault.
