UIDAI CEO Saurabh Garg has said that they will evaluate and rectify flaws in the process of issuing Bal Aadhaar cards, as highlighted in a newly Comptroller and Auditor General (CAG) report.
According to Garg, UIDAI will evaluate the CAG report's recommendations and if there are any gaps in the system, they will be plugged.
The 108-page CAG report, which was released in the first week of April, is the first performance review of the Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) from 2015 to 2019. The CAG audit was critical of the UIDAI's decision to provide Bal Aadhaar cards without biometrics to children.
According to Garg, they are closely looking at the report and will make necessary changes and will also take into account the audit report and recommendations related to Bal Aadhaar cards and other aspects.
The CAG claimed in its report that granting Aadhaar numbers to children under the age of five based on their parents' biometrics violated the Aadhaar Act's fundamental premise. Additionally, the audit stated that the project incurred an “avoidable expenditure” of Rs 310 crore.
CAG urged the UIDAI to conduct a review of the Bal Aadhaar project and identify alternate means of establishing children's unique identities, particularly in light of the Supreme Court's ruling that no child would be denied benefits due to a lack of an Aadhaar certificate.
