Days after Senior Cyber Group met in Sydney, the White House said that the members have decided to engage on cyber security challenges.

Australia, India, Japan, and the United States all recognise the importance of cybersecurity in an increasingly digital world plagued by sophisticated cyber threats, according to Emily Horne, the US National Security Council's spokesperson.

Improvements are especially necessary in delivering critical infrastructure services such as life, health, and livelihood, she said.

“This week the Quad Senior Cyber Group met in Sydney for two productive days of discussions on opportunities to extend our cyber security cooperation and uplift cyber resilience and critical infrastructure protection in our region,” Horne said.

The group will report to leaders in accordance with established Quad procedures, she explained.

The meeting follows the Quad leaders' decisions on cyber security. Their objective is for an Indo-Pacific that is free, open, and resilient.

“This meeting resulted in a work plan to strengthen collaboration among members, as well as with partners and industry in the region, in order to address our shared concerns,” Horne added.

The QUAD leaders' next in-person summit meeting is slated for this September in Japan. The inaugural meeting took place in Washington, DC, in September.
