Samsung partners Google to develop the third generation of Tensor chipsets

Google is expected to unveil the Tensor 2 silicon with the Pixel 7 series which is likely to launch in October.

Korean technology major is reported to be working to develop the third generation of Tensor chipsets. The South Korea-based tech giant is currently early testing and developing the third-generation Tensor processors with .

Recently Google introduced its proprietary Tensor chipset with the Pixel 6 series and the company has since been improving the new processor for the next generation of Pixel devices. Google is expected to unveil the Tensor 2 silicon with the Pixel 7 series which is likely to launch in October.

As per the report, Google is testing the third generation of Tensor with the development board codenamed “Ripcurrent.” Previously, the Tensor 2 chip was reported of being developed under the codename “Cloudripper”.

The report says that the third-gen Tensor chip carries the model number S5P9865, which also matches the pattern of previous Tensor chips. The first Tensor chip had the model number S5P9845, and Tensor 2 is expected to be S5P9855, the report adds.

There is also buzz that Exynos 1380 chipset may succeed the Exynos 1280 processor which was introduced in April 2021. The report claims that the Exynos 1380 chipset is being developed and tested under the product codename S5E8835.

Currently smartphone features the Exynos 1280 mobile platform, so its successor is expected to power the Samsung Galaxy A54. However, Samsung has not confirmed any details about the development of the new chipsets.

According to the report, Samsung is one of the few options Google currently has for its Tensor chips. However, if the company partners with other chipmakers like MediaTek and Qualcomm the company can find out how far the processors can stretch, the report suggests.
