Cabinet Reshuffle: After completing his three years terms, Prime Minister Narendra Modi is revamping the cabinet. As many as nine new ministers will be inducted on Sunday.

LIVE Updates: After completing his three years terms, Prime Minister Narendra Modi has revamped the cabinet. As many as nine new ministers were inducted today. After assuming office in May 2014, PM Modi expanded his council of ministers twice – first on November 9, 2014 and then on July 5, 2016. Today's Cabinet reshuffle is probably the the last cabinet reshuffle before 2019 General Election. Dharmendra Pradhan, Piyush Goyal, Nirmala Sitharaman is now cabinet ministers. Nirmala Sitharaman has been given the charge of Ministry of Defence, while Piyush Goyal replaces Suresh Prabhu. Nine new ministers have been inducted from ruling BJP. They are Shiv Pratap Shukla, Ashwini Kumar Choubey, Virendra Kumar (SC), Anantkumar Hegde, Raj Kumar Singh, Hardeep Singh Puri, Gajendra Singh Shekhawat, Satya Pal Singh, and Alphons Kannanthanam.

Anantkumar Hegde is a five-term Lok Sabha member. He represents Uttara Kannada constituency of poll bound Karnataka. Hegde first became member of Parliament at the age of 28. He has been a member of several Parliamentary Standing Committees including Finance, Home Affairs, Human Resource Development, Commerce, Agriculture and External Affairs. He has also been a member of the Spices Board of India for four terms.

Ashwini Kumar Choubey is Lok Sabha member from Buxar, Bihar. Choubey has been MLA from Bhagalpur and held important portfolios such as Health, Urban Development as a cabinet minister in the Bihar before contesting for the 16th Lok Sabha election.

Virendra Kumar

Virendra Kuma is a six-term Lok Sabha member from Tikamgarh in Madhya Pradesh. Kumar comes from the scheduled caste and he has worked for the upliftment of rural people. He has represented Sagar constituency of Madhya Pradesh between 1996 to 2009.

Rajya Sabha member from Uttar Pradesh, Shiv Pratap Shukla is a four-term MLA in the UP assembly. Shukla was also a cabinet minister for 8 years in the state.  As a state minister, he is known for his work to reform the conditions for prisoners, and taking various Rural Development Schemes.

A 1975 batch IAS officer of Bihar cadre, Raj Kumar Singh retired as as Union Home Secretary. Singh is a first-term Lok Sabha member from Arrah in Bihar. During Bihar Assembly election, he was reported to be not happy with the party boss on ticket distribution.

Hardeep Singh Puri is former Indian Foreign Service (IFS) officer. Puri was the Permanent Representative of India to the United Nations. He is known for his experience and expertise on foreign policy and . He briefly taught at St. Stephens College before joining the Indian Foreign Service.

Gajendra Singh Shekhawat, popularly knows as Gajju Bana is a first-term Lok Sabha member from Jodhpur, Rajasthan. Shekhawat has been associated with the ABVP since his student days. He was also the co-convenor of the Swadeshi Jagran Manch.

Satya Pal Singh

Satya Pal Singh is a former Police Commissioner of Mumbai. Singh is a first-term Lok Sabha member from Baghpat, Uttar Pradesh. A 1980 batch IPS officer, he is scholar of Vedic studies and Sanskrit. Singh regularly delivers lectures on spirituality, religious harmony and corruption.

Alphons Kannanthanam

Alphons Kannanthanam

Alphons Kannanthanam is ex-IAS officer. Alphons was Commissioner of the Delhi Development Authority, when DDA took many demolition drive. He cleared DDA areas of encroachment removing around 15,000 illegal buildings. Alphons retired from the IAS, to get elected as an Independent Member of Kerala Legislative Assembly in 2006. He was also considered for the post of Administrator of the Union Territory of Chandigarh, but the plan had to be dropped following a political controversy.
