Odor imaging sensor startup Aroma Bit raises $2 million from Sony Corporation

Japanes firm that deals in compact said it has raised about $2 million (250mn JPY) in series A funding from .

The fund will be used for increasing market traction from global top tier customers in the area such as food and beverage, consumer goods, cosmetics, industrial machinery, robotics, mobility, healthcare, agriculture, marketing, among others, said the company.

Aroma Bit developed compact odor imaging sensor device that outputs visual pattern when exposed to various odor, mimicking living olfactory system, unlike conventional gas sensors which specializes in detection of pre-targeted chemical compound gases.

In December 2018, the startup has launched high sensitivity, high odor resolution desktop-type odor measurement instrument and a customisable to target smell.

The company said that in 2019 it plans to initiate a new technology and business creation collaboration program. The goal of the program will be to develop and establish industry-specific innovative solutions using Aroma Bit's sensor and data with specific partner companies from various applications and industries.
