's foreign minister threatened to sue on Wednesday, claiming that the social media platform ignored groups attempting to manipulate public opinion on the island.

According to foreign minister , the digital platform was used by groups of people residing outside Cuba, specifically in the United States, who altered algorithms and geotags to create the illusion of a large presence in Cuba in order to influence public opinion and destabilise Cuban society.

“As has already happened in other parts of the world, Facebook can be sued for these practices against Cuba in strict adherence to the law,” Rodriguez told foreign diplomats accredited to Havana.

The minister accused the social media company based in the United States of cultivating an environment of hatred, discrimination, and racial intolerance, undermining the Caribbean island's right to self-determination.
