All Cuba-based personnel are safely accounted for, says Sherritt

Sherritt International Corporation today announced that it has completed a preliminary review of its operations in Cuba following the aftermath of Hurricane Irma and confirmed that all of its Cuba-based personnel are safely accounted for.

Sherritt International Corporation today announced that it has completed a preliminary review of its operations in Cuba following the aftermath of Hurricane Irma and confirmed that all of its Cuba-based personnel are safely accounted for. also confirmed that the facilities associated with its Moa Joint Venture as well as its Oil and Gas and Power operations incurred only minimal damages as a result of the hurricane. Sherritt and its partners are currently focused on clean-up efforts and restoring all operations to normal capacity.

“We are very grateful that all of our employees in Cuba are safe and that our facilities had minimal impact given the considerable damage that Hurricane Irma has inflicted on the region,” said David Pathe, President and CEO of Sherritt International. “As we work with our Cuban partners and local authorities, we will determine what impact, if any, the disruption caused by Irma will have on our expected 2017 production totals.”

Sherritt, which is celebrating its 90th anniversary in 2017, is the world leader in the mining and refining of nickel from lateritic ores with projects and operations in Canada, Cuba and Madagascar. The Corporation is the largest independent energy producer in Cuba, with extensive oil and power operations across the island.
