As tensions between the two global economic giants, US-China continues to boil, China's foreign minister in a stern warning to the US said that it will “face an unbearable price” over its actions towards the self-ruled island of Taiwan, in Beijing's latest threat over the flashpoint island.
This comes just a month after the US prez Joe Biden-led American administration invited Taiwan to its ‘Summit for Democracy'. The first-of-its-kind gathering is looked at as a test of President Joe Biden's assertion.
US Prez in his first foreign policy address in office in February said that he would return the United States to global leadership to face down authoritarian forces led by China and Russia. The move was strongly protested by China.
Tensions between China and the US have soared in recent years over issues including human rights, trade, and technological competition, with Taiwan emerging as a major flashpoint. China claims the democratic island of Taiwan as its own territory and has vowed to seize it one day by force if necessary.
Although most countries have chosen to formally recognise Beijing over Taipei, many have retained strong unofficial links with the latter, which China bristles at.
