After Modi govt GST cut, Xiaomi drops price of 32-inch Smart TVs in India

With Prime Minister Narendra Modi government notifying the reduction of GST on TVs upto 32-inches from 28% to 18%, the Chinese firm has reduced the price of its 32-inch smart TVs in India.

With the reduction of Rs 1500 and Rs 2000, now the Mi LED 4A 32 and Mi LED TV 4C PRO 32 will be available for Rs 12,499 and Rs 13,999 respectively. Both of these smart TVs were being sold at Rs 13999 and Rs 15999.

Similarly, with the recent dollar moderation, the company said it has reduced the price of Xiaomi Mi LED TV 4A PRO 49 by Rs 1,000. Now, the PRO 49 is available for Rs 30,999.

According to government notifications, there has been reduction in GST rates on 23 goods and services, including movie tickets, TV and monitor screen.

The GST Council on December 22 decided to cut tax rates on 23 goods and services, including movie tickets, TV and monitor screens and power banks and exempted frozen and preserved vegetables from the levy.

The Council had rationalised the 28 per cent slab and restricted the highest slab to luxury, demerit, and sin goods, besides cement, large screen TV, Air Conditioners and dishwashers.

The goods on which GST has been lowered to 18 per cent from 28 per cent at present include pulleys, transmission shafts and cranks, gear boxes, retreaded or used tyres, power banks of lithium ion batteries, digital cameras, video camera recorders and video game consoles.

The GST Council has also decided to slash tax rate on parts and accessories for the carriages for disabled persons from 28 per cent to 5 per cent. Also third party insurance premium of goods carrying vehicles has been reduced from 18 per cent to 12 per cent.

The other items which will attract lower of 5 per cent include marble rubble, natural cork, walking stick, fly ash blocks.

Music books and vegetables (uncooked or cooked by steaming or boiling in water), frozen, branded and put in an unit container and vegetables provisionally preserved but unsuitable in that state for immediate consumption have been exempted from GST.

GST on movie tickets costing up to Rs 100 has been cut to 12 per cent, from 18 per cent. Also tickets over Rs 100 will attract 18 per cent GST, against 28 per cent earlier. Monitors and TV screens up to 32 inches and power banks will attract 18 per cent GST, as against 28 per cent earlier.
