Cisco appoints former PayPal CEO Dan Schulman to Board of Directors

Apart from his new role at Cisco, Dan Schulman holds positions on the boards of PayPal, Verizon Communications and Cleveland Clinic. His past board memberships include NortonLifeLock (formerly Symantec Corporation) and Flex Ltd.

American network technology giant said that it has appointed to its board of directors, effective from October 10, 2023. Schulman, known for his previous role as the president and CEO of PayPal brings with him a wealth of experience in the technology and digital domains, said the company.

Chuck Robbins, the chair and CEO of Cisco, said: “Dan is a proven and well-respected business leader, and I am pleased to welcome him to Cisco's board. His strong leadership driving business transformation in the digital era combined with deep experience in technology and strategic planning will be a valuable asset to our board.”

Schulman's tenure as PayPal's president and CEO spanned from July 2015 to September 2023, preceded by his role as CEO-designee of PayPal from September 2014 to July 2015.

His career also includes ket roles at Sprint Nextel Corporation, where post the acquisition of Virgin Mobile USA he served as the president of the Prepaid Group. Schulman was also the founding CEO of Virgin Mobile USA and had stints as the president and CEO of Priceline Group along with several significant positions at AT&T including the role of president of the Consumer Markets Division.

Apart from his new role at Cisco, Schulman holds positions on the boards of PayPal, Verizon Communications and Cleveland Clinic. His past board memberships include NortonLifeLock (formerly Symantec Corporation) and Flex Ltd.

Schulman holds a Bachelor of Arts degree from Middlebury College and a Master of Business Administration from New York University's Leonard N. Stern School of Business.

In related development, Cisco also said that M. Michele Burns, Rod McGeary, and Dr. Lisa T. Su have decided not to stand for re-election at Cisco's 2023 annual meeting. Burns and McGeary have been long-serving members of Cisco's Board for twenty years, while Su joined the board in 2020.
