Smart City Corporation has partnered with Corporation India to set up a City Operations Centre (COC) and implement various Information and Communication Technology (ICT) solutions in Tirupati. The project is designed to improve city management and offer enhanced services to residents and visitors, said a statement.

According to NEC, the ICT solutions to be implemented include a Unified Command and Control Centre, which will facilitate real-time data collection and analysis, as well as two-way communications.

The company asserted that these capabilities are planned to streamline the city's responses to challenges in sectors such as safety, security, healthcare, and environmental management. Additional infrastructure, including a City Network Infrastructure and an On Premises Data Centre, will be established to enable data-driven decision-making for city operations.

Effective city management is key

D. Haritha, Managing Director, , said that the city, known for its significant religious tourism, receives a large number of daily visitors. Effective city management is thus crucial for ensuring the comfort, efficiency, and safety of both residents and tourists.

“Tirupati is home to one of the most sought after pilgrimage destinations in the country, attracting up to 80,000 visitors each day. Managing this kind of footfall while ensuring the highest order of comfort, efficiency, and safety for all is a mission-critical task,” D. Haritha said.

Traffic management is another focal point of the Smart City project. An Intelligent Traffic Management System is slated for deployment to manage traffic flow, mitigate congestion during peak hours, and aim to reduce road accidents.

NEC India to support local government

NEC India said it will also support the local government in Tirupati in the delivery of Municipal Services through technology. Key systems in this regard include Facial Recognition Systems, Intelligent Video Management Systems, and integration with existing and new CCTV cameras around the city.

Additional elements of the project comprise Smart Water Solutions, Environmental Sensors, and Public Address Systems, aimed at further aiding the governance of the city. To enhance public engagement and dissemination of important local information, Digital Billboards and Variable Message Sign Boards will be placed in designated locations.

City Collaboration Platform in pipeline

A City Collaboration Platform is also in the pipeline, designed to offer essential local information through a web portal and mobile phones. Aalok Kumar, President and CEO, NEC Corporation India, said that the project aligns with NEC Corporation's broader global strategies for Smart City development.
