During the two day conference,  company plans to showcase some of its solutions and make new announcement around products and partnerships. Here are the top 5 key takeaways from the first day of the Cisco India Summit 2017.

Cisco bags contract from Shopper Stop

Cisco bags contract from Shopper Stop to deploy wireless solutions including connected mobile experience (MCX) and video collaboration solutions across 80 outlets. This will help fashion retailer understand their customer better for in-store marketing and in-store tracking leading to increased sales. By 2020, Shopper Stop aims to achieve 20% rise in sales.

Continue to focus on digital transformation in India

While delivering his keynote address on the first day of the Cisco India Summit 2017, Dinesh Malkani, president of Cisco India & SAARC reiterated Cisco's commitment towards digital transformation of the country. Malkani highlighted some of the work being done by the company with different state governments and enterprises across India. He said, “Cisco is planning to make India a centre for global export for its hardware products having kicked off manufacturing of access points and routers in Pune, and is also hopeful of continuing its high growth in India banking on digitization. Under its Country Digitisation Acceleration programme, the company is managing deep engagements with 6-7 States across 50 projects. It has set up 6 innovation centres in Bengaluru, Telangana, Andhra Pradesh, Jaipur and Gujarat.

The art of the possible

V C Gopalratnam, SVP, CIO-International, Cisco spoke on the topic of “The Art of The Possible”. During his address Gopalratnam focused on technology trends and its impact on the society. He gave brief overview of the work that Cisco is doing with government agencies including agriculture department aimed at helping farmers.

Data driven digital transformation

Sanjay Kaul, MD, GSP, Cisco india& SAARC shared insights on how digital transformation is changing the telecom sector. He was of the view that because of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and right policy of Trai led by R S Sharma, good things are happening for telecom sector. “Digitisation was much needed, but what is happening right now, we could not have thought 2-3 years ago. Reliance Jio has changed the game. What they are doing is phenomenal from digitisation point of view. In couple of years, there will be 4-5 major players with the market share of 15-20% each,” said Kaul, adding that connectivity, platform and app will be the key going forward.

To focus on SMEs across India

There are about 50 million small and medium enterprises (SMEs) in India. Out of which only 2% are currently online. So there is tremendous interest in SMEs modernisation. This has been propelled by success of e-commerce firms in India. Currently, about 30,000 SMEs are Cisco customers and companies aims to take this number to 90,000 over the next three years. “Over the past few years we have specifically focused on SME sector by launching solutions for them,” Nal Gollagunta, Managing Director, Commercial Sales, Cisco India and SAARC said, adding that SME sector requirements and approach to IT are different from startups and big enterprises.
