The session one was for ME, EY, PE, XE, XL and session two was for ME, AE, MA, PI. examinations is key as on the basis of its score student will be able to pursue post graduate (PG) courses in engineering and also government PSUs considers GATE score to select candidates for jobs. Already, PSUs like Indian Oil Corporation among other have announced the vacancy stating that they will fill the vacancy on the basis of GATE 2018 score.

This year GATE examination is being conducted under the mentorship of IIT Guwahati. GATE 2018 examinations is being conducted in 23 subjects in 8 session in online computer based test (CBT) mode. GATE 2018 examinations are being held during the forenoon and afternoon sessions on 3rd, 4th, 10th and 11th of February 2018. After completion of the examination, some of the private institutes are likely to share the tentative answer keys. On the basis of those keys, we can analyse, the level of difficulty and expected cut-off.

GATE examination is conducted jointly by the Indian Institute of Science (IISc), Bangalore and the seven Indian Institutes of Technology (Bombay, Delhi, Guwahati, Kanpur, Kharagpur, Madras and Roorkee) on behalf of the National Coordination Board (NCB)-GATE, Department of Higher , Ministry of Human Resource Development (MHRD), Government of India.

Qualifying in GATE is a mandatory requirement for seeking admission or financial assistance to master's programs and direct doctoral programs in engineering, technology, architecture and doctoral programs in relevant branches of science, in the institutions supported by the MHRD and other government agencies. Even in some colleges and institutions, which admit students without MHRD scholarship or assistantship, the GATE qualification is mandatory. Further, many Public Sector Undertakings (PSUs) have been using the GATE score in their recruitment process.

According to experts, in first session majority of the question were concept based. The questions from General Aptitude And Mathematics were easy. Questions from core subject were easy to moderate.

Similarly in the second session, according T.I.M.E, the number of NAT questions was more than that of the MCQs and had more weightage as well. The weightage for Manufacturing Technology was the highest and a lot of questions were lengthy. One mark questions were mostly easy and very few were of medium level. The paper on the whole required more logical thinking and conceptual analysis. Overall the paper was found to be easy to moderate
