Dhaka: The state-owned telecom service provider is going to get Tk 2,204 crore investment from the government to modernize the network.

A meeting of the Executive Committee of the National Economic Council () on Tuesday afternoon approved a plan to expand Teletalk's network at the village level and modernize the network to provide services.

The government is providing almost all the funds for the implementation of this project. The cost for the project is estimated at Tk2,144 crore.  Its implementation is expected to start this year and be completed by December 2023.

It is learned that the project will be implemented at the initiative of the .

The project, which is scheduled to start this year, is expected to be completed by December 2023. Under this project of modernization of network, three thousand new sites, rooms, towers, locks, etc. will be constructed.

However, an official of Teletalk said that some work will be done in the development of 2G and 3G infrastructure that we have in this project.

And since there is a target to go to 5G in the future, we will put some equipment in preparation for 5G. A different project proposal has been received for launching 5G in 200 places in Dhaka, I am processing it. If that project is implemented, we will get 5G.
