Dhaka: Police have arrested a young man named Yasin (20) for making a Likee and video on the verandah of a model in Comilla's Daudkandi.

He was arrested from his home in Vinglabari of Debidwar upazila on Sunday. Yasin is the son of the late Golap Miah of the village.

District Superintendent of Police (SP) Mohammad Farooq Ahmed confirmed the arrest at a press briefing at the Comilla Superintendent of Police office this morning.

A likee and TikTok video of youngsters singing Hindi songs at the newly inaugurated Model Mosque in Daudkandi, Comilla, recently spread on social media.

The incident sparked sharp criticism among local worshipers. They demanded the arrest of those involved. The young man was arrested the day after the Bangla daily Jugantar news went viral over the internet.

According to the Superintendent of Police, the video was made on the verandah of ‘Daudkandi Model Mosque and Islamic Center' in Daudkandi Upazila on July 26 and uploaded on Like ID.

This created dissatisfaction among the common worshipers. In fact, the police launched an operation to identify the video makers and bring them under the law for hurting religious sentiments.

Farooq Ahmed further said that the police arrested Yasin, a ticket manufacturer, from his house in Vinglabari village on Sunday night.

He admitted to making a TikTok video on the porch of the mosque. A case is pending against Yasin and his associates under the Visitor Safety Act.

However, no information was available about the arrest of the young woman who was with a young man in the video.
