Bangladesh: Supreme Court and High Court will be run virtually

Dhaka: In July 1 to 7, the 's and the Chamber Judge's Court will conduct the trial virtually.Similarly, the judicial proceedings of the three benches of the will be limited due to imposed strict lockdown.

The information was given in a circular signed by Supreme Court Registrar General Mohammad Ali Akbar on Wednesday afternoon under the direction of Chief Justice Syed Mahmud Hossain.

The trial will be conducted from July 1 to July 7 under the direction of the Chief Justice, the Appellate Division of the Virtual Supreme Court and the Chamber Judge's Court, the statement said. On July 6 and 7, the Appellate Division will hear the criminal appeals and jail appeals of the convicts sentenced to death. Judges of the Appellate Division, lawyers of the concerned cases and other officials will hold virtual hearings from their homes.

There will also be three separate benches of the High Court dealing with writs, motions. These courts will not hear anything other than urgent matters.

However, the lawyers have been asked to contact the Registrar General of the Supreme Court, the Registrar of the Appellate Division and the High Court Division and the Special Officer of the Supreme Court regarding the hearing in the chamber court.

The decision was taken due to a lockdown announced by the government in the wake of rising coronavirus infections. Lawyers and candidates have been barred from entering the Supreme Court premises at this time.
