Bangladesh govt forms 16-member committee for e-commerce sector

The Director-General of the WTO Cell of the Ministry of Commerce and the head of the digital commerce cell Hafizur Rahman has been made the convener of the committee.

Dhaka: The Ministry of Commerce has formed a 16-member technical committee in the interest of entrepreneurs, buyers, and suppliers. The committee was formed by an order on Monday (September 27).

The Director-General of the WTO Cell of the Ministry of Commerce and the head of the digital commerce cell Hafizur Rahman has been made the convener of the committee.

The committee will have one representative each from the Finance and Financial Institutions Department of the Ministry of Finance, Public Security Department of the Ministry of Home Affairs, Information and Technology Department, Local Government and Cooperatives Department, Police, Cyber Crime Intelligence Branch, Rapid Action Battalion (), .

There will also be one representative each from the National Directorate of Consumer Protection, Bangladesh Competition Commission, Access to Information (A2i), Bangladesh Association of Software and Information Services (), and E-Commerce Association of Bangladesh (ICAB).

The member secretary of the committee will be a Deputy Secretary of the Central Digital Commerce Cell of the Ministry of Commerce. The order said that the committee has been formed to resolve all e-commerce related activities, business through e-commerce, transactional consumer or seller dissatisfaction, and technical issues. The task of the committee will be to advise the Ministry of Commerce on technical matters from time to time.

The committee may convene a meeting once a month or whenever necessary.

The Committee may, if it deems necessary, include the required number of officers from any Ministry, Division, or Office as members.
