Dhaka — The project of giving unique ID's to secondary and higher secondary students and preparing the database is going to start soon in , said a senior government official.

As part of this project, an integrated information management system is being developed for the two departments of the Ministry of Education, all the departments, education boards and educational institutions.

Once completed, the platform will be launched through the IEIMS project of the Bangladesh Bureau of Education Information and Statistics (BANBASE), said the official.

Under this project, students of the class 6th to 12th will be given a unique ID card by preparing a database. The cooperation of field education officers and educational institutions has been sought for the successful implementation of the data collection work of the students.

Official letters have recently been sent to all regional education offices seeking information from the Department of Secondary and Higher Education. Unique ID includes options for religious identification, Islam, Hindu, Buddhist, Christian, and others, as well as ‘Not a Believer' and ‘Refuse to Disclose' options.

A specific form for collecting information as per the rules of the project implementing authority has already reached the educational institutions. It is learned that educational institutions have started the work of making the form available to the students.

Although the word ‘gender' has already been used for gender information, the word ‘gender' is explicitly mentioned in this form. And ‘other' has been added along with men and women as options.

Many feel that these newly added words are associated with religious and gender tolerance and recognition. It is learned that the unique ID will have a 10 to 16 digit student identification number.

Later, the information to be added to the database and will be coordinated with the student's national identity card. As a result, it will not be essential to collect information separately while preparing the national identity card.
