Dhaka — Countless cyber-attack has been launched on the coronavirus vaccine registration app ‘Surokkha' in using the gateway of 20 countries. In 48 hours, the attackers carried out cyber-attacks about 40 million times leading to service disruption, according to sources.

According to the Digital Security Agency of the Information Technology and Communication division, in the 48 hours since August 6, hackers have carried out cyber-attacks on the security app using the infrastructure of 20 countries about 40 million times.

At that time, six crores 16 lakh 74 thousand people hit the app. Technicians say the attack could be triggered by a number of reasons, including disrupting the security app's service, disabling the app, stealing information, leaving Bangladesh in limbo, and demanding a ransom.

Digital Security Agency Director (Operations) Tareq M Barkatullah said, “We went to work as soon as we found out.” The security app protects the security app from hackers in a very short time.”

According to our information, the hackers carried out the attack using the infrastructure of 20 countries including South Korea, America and Vietnam.

He said, “Initially, we thought that the app would be useful for expatriates returning from abroad while entering the airport.” There was no restriction for this. The whole thing has been fixed after this incident. We have control over all matters including registration from abroad.

Regarding the reasons why such a big attack could be carried out, the technologist said that there could be a cyberattack on the app for more than one reason. One of them is to disrupt the service of the app, endanger the country, demand ransom, steal information.

According to the Health Division, about three crore people have so far registered for the coronavirus vaccine through the app.
