Google investigating Pixel 2 XL to avoid Samsung Galaxy Note 7 fate

Google is investigating Pixel 2 XL after reports suggested that it may be facing display burn-in issue.

No company would like to go through an experience that Korean giant Samsung had to face after Galaxy Note 7 kept exploding due to faulty battery, search giant , which is just playing its second inning in smartphone segment is going all out to ensure that reports which suggested that its newly launched premier smartphone Pixel 2 XL may be facing display burn-in problem are properly and accurately addressed.

Recently, multiple reports have said that when people look at the smartphone's screen with a grey background, they can see faint outlines of the phone's navigation buttons on the bottom. US-based technology news portal Verge reported that it could be a genuine screen burn-in problem, may become a deal-breaker for potential buyers.

Google Pixel 2 XL burn-in issue

A Google spokesperson was quoted by an online portal saying that “company put all of our products through extensive quality testing before launch and in the manufacturing of every unit. We are actively investigating this report.” The screen burn-in issue was first highlighted on Twitter by Alex Dobie from Android Central who tweeted: “That's some pretty wild OLED burn-in on the Pixel 2 XL after maybe 7 days of full-time use.”

Display burn-in issues also called screen burn happens when there is a permanent discolouration on a portion of smartphone's screen caused by irregular pixel usage. The Pixel 2 XL screen has been designed with an advanced POLED technology, including QHD+ resolution, wide colour gamut, and high contrast ratio for natural and beautiful colours and renderings.
