Pearson appoints Vikas Singh as India MD; replaces Deepak Mehrotra

The education and learning firm Pearson has appointed Vikas Singh as the new Managing Director in India.

The and learning firm has appointed as the new Managing Director in India. Vikas will be spearheading the operations and driving the overall growth and profitability of Pearson in India, said a statement. In his new role, he will play a crucial role in making this region emerge as one of the most significant contributors to Pearson's global growth strategy, said Pearson. Vikas will take on his new role effective September 2017 and will replace Deepak Mehrotra, the current Managing Director, who is moving on to pursue his interests in other sectors.

“We are pleased to appoint Vikas Singh as the new Managing Director for Pearson in India. In the past, Vikas had successfully led one of the core verticals, Higher Education and Test Preparation, and augmented its portfolio in India. With his incredible strong knowledge and experience in managing various portfolios across marketing, operations and business management, we are confident that he will contribute significantly to Pearson India's renewed strategy on transforming millions of lives through meaningful and innovative learning,” said Giovanni Giovannelli, President – Growth Market, Pearson.

Vikas is a seasoned business leader with 25 years of deep management experience and wide business perspectives developed working across locations and sectors. He has held various important assignments with leading organisations such as Lakme, Gillette, Hutch and Airtel. Prior to joining Pearson India, Vikas headed the Indian operations for Kimberly Clark as the Managing Director. His cross-industry experience will help relook at Pearson's India strategy with a new lens.

“There is a huge opportunity for us as a company to contribute to the emerging and evolving Indian education landscape and provide access to better quality education to the learners. Our aim is to take world class global products and services from our lines of business and other geographies and bring them to India to meet the growing need for high-quality learning resources,” said Vikas in a statement.

Vikas holds a graduate degree in Chemistry from St. Stephens College, University of Delhi and a Post-Graduate degree in Management from Faculty of Management Studies, University of Delhi.

Founded in 1844, Pearson is an education and learning company, with 35,000 employees across 70 countries worldwide. It deals in educational courseware and assessment, and a range of teaching and learning services.
