It is early 2017 and we have already seen few very promising launches in India that focus on improving quality of the smartphone that struggled  a lot in 2016 – from the battery burst to absurd performance, we had all. But keeping all the hue of the industry back, recently, Chinese smartphone maker launched Honor 6X smartphone in India.

The Honor 6X comes with a 5.5-inch Full HD display, octa-core Kirin 655 processor and two variants in – a 3GB RAM, 32GB ROM version for Rs 12,999 and Rs 15,999 for 4GB RAM and 64GB ROM. But that is not what company is banking on to sell this smartphone. The defferntiating feature of this Honor 6X is a dual-camera lens which company has introduced for a Rs 15,999 smartphone.

We reviewed and here is our views.

Huawei Honor 6X

If you are somebody who has Honor 5X, it is quite obvious that you will look for things that have been added into Honor 6X but to your surprise, the newly launched smartphone is altogether a different looking phone. Out of the box, Honor 6X looks premium and the body is made of aluminium-alloy with clean curves.

The volume rocker is placed above the power button and a slot for MicroSD and SIM card is on the other side of the phone. While a micro-USB port alongside the two speaker grills is on the bottom, and the standard 3.5mm headphone jack rests on top.

The back is home to the dual camera which is stacked vertically in a single protruding design. There's also the circular fingerprint sensor which can be programmed to perform additional functions like taking selfies, answering calls and swiping up and down for notifications. It's fast, accurate and works well. There are also plastic caps on the top and bottom of the phone for antenna signals, but the good things is that they have been aesthetically blended with the phone's body.

The Honor 6X comes with a 5.5-inch Full HD display with 1920×1080 resolution. The display is vivid and the colours are accurate; and viewing angles and the visuals offer decent detail. But company could have improved the sharpness little further but that does not mean you won't enjoy watching photos or videos.

Under the hood, Honor 6X is powered by a mid-end Kirin 655 processor and comes in two variants – 3GB RAM/32GB storage and 4GB RAM/64GB storage. During the review period, the device handled each and everything without any hiccup or lag. Multi-tasking has been smooth and we could play some of the graphics intensive games too. But above all, the best thing is that it does not over-heat even after prolong usage.

As far as performance is concern, there are two things that Huwaei could have avoided. First, device is bloated – from HiGame, Mopria Print Service, TripAdvisor, Booking.com, TrueCaller, HoToday, UCBrowser to Social Channels – these all are preloaded which many of the users will not appreciate. Second, Honor 6X runs on Google's Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow with Huawei's custom EMUI 4.1 layer on top. This custom EMUI 4.1 is old. People were expecting that company would bring EMUI 5.

On the camera front, the Honor 6X comes with a 12-megapixel primary camera and a secondary, 2-megapixel sensor meant for post photographic effects and 8-megapixel front camera. Some of the test pics that we clicked in daytime produced sharp, colourful and vibrant images.  But same could not be repeated in the low light condition.

As far as the second camera is concern; it is for focusing on the objects in the foreground and blur out the area behind it. We could focus on the object and final results were more or less accurate. The selfie camera is also not far behind; it produces detailed and natural-looking selfies.

The Honor 6X packs a 3,340mAh battery that offers 6-8 hours of battery life in general usage.

In totality, the Honor 6X is a fast phone that does not heats up even with extensive usage. It produces quality pictures and offers decent battery life but company could have improved display. If you are looking for with decent specs with the budget of 12-15K, this could be your phone.
