Bangladesh to import electric cars

Road Transport Department is also under the Ministry of Roads and Bridges of Bangladesh. Additional Secretary of the department Yusuf Ali Mollah told the media that they had a long meeting on Wednesday to finalize the policy on electric vehicles.

Dhaka: Bangladesh is on the way to import electric cars. A new policy is being formulated for this. The import will start only after the final approval of the cabinet.

Anyone personally will have the opportunity to use the electric car. This has been informed by the department under the Ministry of Roads and Bridges.

Discussions have started centering on the new policy. Not only importing electric vehicles, the authorities have also started working on a policy to charge those vehicles.

According to the officials, they are hoping that the import of motor vehicles will start as soon as the policy is finalized.

There are a lot of easy bikes in the country at the moment. Apart from this, it is yet to be decided when other vehicles, including private cars, will start importing.

Road Transport Department is also under the Ministry of Roads and Bridges of Bangladesh. Additional Secretary of the department Yusuf Ali Mollah told the media that they had a long meeting on Wednesday to finalize the policy on electric vehicles.

Another committee headed by a joint secretary has been formed. The draft policy should be reviewed and reported within seven days.

Yusuf Ali Mollah said: “After receiving the report, discussions will be held again, the opinion of the ministry will have to be taken and the concerned parties will have to discuss. After passing these steps, we will be able to finalize the policy and submit it to the ministry. This will take some time.”

The policy was drafted almost two years ago to regulate illegally operated electric vehicles, especially easy bikes, across the country.

The Bangladesh Road Transport Authority (BRTA) did that. This time the discussion on the new policy started based on that draft.
