Facebook paid VAT of Tk 2.27 crore to Bangladesh govt

: The Social media has paid Tk2.27 crore value-added tax () or VAT to in July. The global company deposited the money in the government treasury by submitting the VAT return on Tuesday.

They have paid VAT as an organization registered with Facebook Dhaka South Commissionerate. Earlier in June, Facebook was the first non-resident organization to file a VAT return. Then they paid 2 crores 44 lakh taka VAT.

Dhaka South Commissionerate Commissioner Humayun Kabir said, “As a regular taxpayer, Facebook has submitted its July return today. Through this, the organization is becoming more compliant. We can now audit there if necessary.

He said: “ the company is submitting VAT returns stating all the income and expenditure information including how much taka service it is selling per month.”

Along with Facebook, Google and Amazon are paying VAT to Bangladesh as non-resident organizations. Non-resident organization means doing business in Bangladesh but not having an office.
