Bangladesh: Evaly asks shoppers to send video for refund

Bankers say that usually, checks are bounced or rejected if there is not enough balance in the account and the signature of the account holder is matched.

Bankers say that usually, checks are bounced or rejected if there is not enough balance in the account and the signature of the account holder is matched.

Dhaka Officials have asked customers to send videos who tear off checks and send videos will have their refunds deposited in their bank accounts. Many buyers are sharing records of mobile conversations with Evaly officials offering to tear down checks.

Buyers in the groups complained that since last January, Evaly had offered refund checks to various banks, including The City Bank and Midland Bank, by ordering bikes on a cyclone offer to customers who had not yet been delivered. Buyers should not deposit checks in the bank on the due date; That's why they were requested by phone last month. Even so, owning one is still beyond the reach of the average customer.

Bankers say that usually, checks are bounced or rejected if there is not enough balance in the account and the signature of the account holder is matched.

After issuing the check to the account holder in someone else's name and sending the check number to the bank, when the payment is prohibited, the bank does not pay even if the check is deposited. This is called a stop payment.

Buyers say that since last Monday, its officials have been calling customers on their mobile phones and tearing up checks issued in their names – asking them to send clear videos to certain WhatsApp numbers.

Those who tear off checks and send videos will be credited to their bank accounts, they said. Officials at Evaly also warn that those who do not tear down the check and send the video will face complications.

Md Russell, managing director of Evaly, admitted to Business daily Business Standard that he asked customers to tear up checks and send videos.

“We have an account off of Midland Bank,” he said. So I am doing RTGS (Real Time Gross Settlement) without replacing the check. We have refunded all customers who tear down checks and send videos. In the future, I will deposit money in the bank account of the customer first, then I will ask you to send the video of tearing the check.

Customers will not have any legal documents to recover money from Evaly if the check is not refunded after it is torn. Then they are worried that getting a refund may be uncertain.

Asked about buyers' concerns, Russell said the documents they had ordered from us were “in their favor.” After that, we will ask you to tear the check after paying. That will increase our work a bit. Then many customers may not want to tear the check.

Regarding the allegation that the goods were refunded in the Evaly system even though the customers were not refunded and the goods were not delivered, the Evaly CEO said that Electronic Funds Transfer Network () often bounces the account if the bank makes a mistake.

“We resolve any incidents of refunds being reported to us, even if they have not been refunded. Many times auto is the solution.

“Not all courier OTP (One Time Password) systems are automated at the delivery stage. Delivery is marked after a certain period of time. If anyone complains about this, we will update them,” he said.
