IIIT-Delhi to offer M.Tech in Artificial Intelligence: Check details

Indraprastha Institute of Information Technology, Delhi will start a new M.Tech programme with specialisation in Artificial Intelligence from the academic year starting in July 2018.

One of the premier engineering college in Delhi, the (IIIT) is all set to offer Master in Technology (M.Tech) course in from next academic year, said a statement. IIIT-Delhi academic year starts in July 2018.

According to officials, the M.Tech programme will be research oriented. Both theoretical and practical knowledge will be imparted to students on foundation and advanced Artificial Intelligence and . “The programme will be research oriented and focus on foundations and advances in Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning,” said Mayank Vatsa, head of Infosys Centre for Artificial Intelligence at IIIT-Delhi.

The programme will prepare graduates to undertake industry careers involving innovation and problem solving using Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Machine Learning (ML) technologies. “After the course, the students will be able to recognise and analyse problems related to AI applications, apply pattern recognition, machine learning and artificial intelligence techniques to solve real-world problems,” Vatsa said.

The course will be spread over four semesters and the intake would be 20 students. IIIT-Delhi was created by the Delhi government through an Act – IIIT Delhi Act, 2007 – with the chancellor of the institute being the Lt. Governor of Delhi.

IIIT-Delhi is envisaged to be a research-led institute with degree programs at the Bachelor, Masters, and PhD levels. Like the IITs, and most top universities across the world, both research as well as teaching forms the basic objectives of IIIT-D.

Currently, it offers BTech in CSE, ECE, and CSAM; MTech CS, ECE, and CB; PhD program in CSE, ECE, CB, and Mathematics. IIIT-D follows a semester system and uses letter grades on a 10-point scale for grading a student's performance in a course. Grading is done internally by the faculty and is based on instruments like assignments, quizzes, tests, exams, projects, labs, presentations, etc. spread throughout the semester. One of these instruments is the final exam, which takes place at the end of the semester.
