One of the pre-requisite tests to pursue higher study in engineering, the or most popularly known as GATE will be held next year in the month of February.  A notification in this regard has been issued which said that the Institute of Technology Guwahati (IITG) will conduct the examination in the month of February 2017.

According to the notification, application forms for the exam will be available on the official website on September 1. All the candidates who wish to apply need to fill out the online form by October 5. The exam is slated to be held between February 3 to February 11, 2017.

GATE 2018 has well tested online application system called GATE Online Application Processing System (GOAPS). This application process is being mange via the website. On September 1, the link for the online application will be made available to the students.

Why GATE 2018

Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE) is an examination conducted jointly by the Indian Institute of Science (IISc), Bangalore and the seven Indian Institutes of Technology (Bombay, Delhi, Guwahati, Kanpur, Kharagpur, Madras and Roorkee) on behalf of the National Coordination Board (NCB)-GATE, Department of Higher Education, Ministry of Human Resource Development (MHRD), Government of India.

Qualifying in GATE is a mandatory requirement for seeking or financial assistance to master's programs and direct Doctoral programs in engineering, technology, architecture and doctoral programs in relevant branches of science, in the institutions supported by the MHRD and other government agencies.

Even in some colleges and institutions, which admit students without MHRD scholarship or assistantship, the GATE qualification is mandatory. Further, many Public Sector Undertakings (PSUs) have been using the GATE score in their recruitment process.

Key facts about GATE 2018

For GATE 2018, IIT Guwahati is the organising institute. GATE 2018 will be conducted on 23 subjects. Examination for all the 23 subjects will be conducted as an online computer-based test (CBT). The online examination paper will contain some questions for which numerical answers must be keyed in by the candidate using the virtual keypad. The rest of the questions will be of the Multiple Choice Question (MCQ) type. The Candidates will use only an on-screen virtual calculator provided for the examination.

The Admit Cards for GATE 2018 would be available only on the GOAPS website. Candidates can download their Admit Card from the GOAPS website once it is made available. No printed copy of the Admit Cards will be posted to the candidates. Also, no request for any changes in the Centre or Date/Time specified in the Admit Card will be entertained.
