The Bihar School Education Board (BSEB) which is a nodal agency to conduct Bihar Teacher Eligibility Test (BTET) has postponed the Bihar Teacher Eligibility Test (BTET) 2017. Now the Bihar BSEB BTET 2017 exams will be conducted on June 29 instead of June 11. The board has not given any reason as to why the date has been changed.

As per schedule, Bihar BSEB BTET 2017 will be held in two shifts on June 29, 2017 across the state. First shift is scheduled from 10 am to 12.30 pm and second shift exam would take place from 2 pm to 4.30 pm. The board conducts these examination to appoint teachers in state government schools across.

As per eligibility rules, a candidates who have acquired degree in Bachelor of Education can sit for the exam. The Bihar School Examination Board conduct annual Secondary School Examination in the month of February/March and Supplementary School Examination in the month of August/September. It is the nodal agency for conducting exams and prescribing syllabus and recognising schools in Bihar.

In recent past the board has been in the news for all wrong reasons. Last year, a mega scam broke out leading to arrest of many senior officials including its chairman.

The scam popularly known as Bihar toppers scam came into limelight on 31 May 2016 when the Bihar School Examination Board (BSEB) Arts and Humanities topper Ruby Rai, Science topper Saurabh Shrestha and third topper in Science stream Rahul Kumar were interviewed by television channels and they were unable to answer basic questions.

Ruby Rai, student of Vishun Roy College, Kiratpur Raja Ram village in Vaishali district pronounced Political Science as ‘Prodigal Science’ and described it as a subject related to cooking. Science topper Saurabh Shrestha was unaware of electron and proton and wrongly said that aluminium is the most reactive element.

In order to ensure that no negative reporting happens, in February 2017, Secretary of the Bihar School Examination Board (BSEB), Anup Kumar Sinha had directed all the district magistrates and superintendent of police to keep the media out of the examination centers.

According to reports, board is currently preparing the topper list and it does not want to repeat anything like last year.

Apart from the Secondary School Examination, the Board also conducts departmental examinations such as Diploma in Physical Education, Certificate in Physical Education and Teachers Training Examination.
